Extractions

Q Can I eat or drink after my extraction?

Do not eat or drink until the local anaesthetic has worn off, and thereafter avoid food and drink near the extraction site for several days.

Q Should I rinse my mouth out?

Avoid mouth rinsing for at least the next 24 hours.

Q What about my vices?

Avoid alcohol and smoking for the next 24 hours and any excessive physical exertion soon after the extraction as this may encourage bleeding.

Q What if it keeps bleeding?

If bleeding occurs, apply gentle pressure to the extraction site by means of biting on a small cotton pack for up to 20 minutes at a time. Over the next few days, as the area heals you may experience some discomfort, this is quite normal. However if you have any prolonged pain or bleeding please contact the practice.
